This course introduces the essentials of the Internet of Things (IoT), exploring how connected devices communicate and transform everyday systems. You will learn about key IoT components, such as sensors, communication protocols, and data processing, alongside the architecture that powers real-time data interactions. Applications across sectors like home automation and industrial automation are covered, with a focus on Industrial IoT (IIoT) and industrial communication systems like Fieldbus and Ethernet. The course also covers IoT reference models, communication protocols, and semantics, as well as the challenges and opportunities within IoT. By course end, you will have a solid foundation to understand IoT’s growing impact across industries.

Norbert Gronau

Prof. Dr.-Ing.Norbert Gronau is a professor of business informatics, with a focus on processes and systems, at the University of Potsdam. In addition to his academic work, he also works as a consultant for various companies and organizations. His research interests include topics such as Knowledge Management, Enterprise Modelling, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and the Internet of Things (IoT). With his extensive experience and deep understanding of these topics, he brings valuable insights to our IoT course.
